In practical test, transmitting power minus actual received optical power is the value of optical fiber attenuation (dB). The best value of receiving optical power is the maximum value of optical power - (dynamic range /2), but generally it will not reach such a good condition. Since dynamic range of each fiber media converter and optical module is not the same, so the allowable fiber attenuation should depends on the actual situation, generally the allowable attenuation is about 15-30dB.
